In our current digital age, we are constantly bombarded with political updates. The inundation of hyperbolic material on our phones and in our homes has a deleterious effect on our anxiety levels and our digital well-being. This presentation will share evidence-based tips for managing political anxiety and enhancing digital well-being.
Speakers:
Julie Orme is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Winthrop University, where she teaches advanced macro practice, empowerment practice, and human behavior in the social environment. She received her Ph.D. from Howard University and was a Frederick Douglass Scholar. She went on to complete a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Fort Hare in South Africa. Her credentials include a bachelor’s and master’s degree in social work from Brigham Young University. She minored in International Development and had the opportunity to participate in 4-month field studies in South Africa and Ghana. She has also worked as a licensed social worker for more than 20 years in the areas of foster-care, mobile treatment, outpatient mental health, and employee assistance counseling. Her areas of scholarship include the topics of migration, human trafficking, sex trafficking, and child welfare systems in South Africa.
Adam Troy, B.A., MSWI is a certified life and trauma-informed coach, pastor, and founder of EPIC Life Coaching. With over 20 years of experience helping individuals navigate stress, identity, and emotional regulation, he empowers others to reclaim peace, purpose, and clarity in an age of digital and political overwhelm.
CE: 1.5 social work hours. Proof of attendance for CE will be distributed via email within one week after the event.
