This session explores how race, age, and identity shape power dynamics in supervision. Participants will learn culturally responsive, developmentally appropriate, and trauma-informed approaches grounded in person-centered theory, and reflect on their own identities to enhance equitable, effective, and empowering supervisory relationships in social work practice.
Objectives:
Analyze how race, age, and other aspects of identity influence power dynamics within the supervisory relationship. Apply culturally responsive developmentally appropriate, and trauma-informed supervision techniques grounded in person-centered theory. Participants will reflect on their own identities and experiences, and evaluate how they impact supervision
Speakers:
Alexis Scurry, LMSW is the Interim Associate Director of Field Education for the Online MSW Program at the University of South Carolina. With over twelve years of experience in child welfare, training, and community engagement, she is passionate about equitable, person-centered social work education and serves in multiple leadership and advocacy roles across South Carolina.
Stephanie Hunter, DSW, LMSW is the Undergraduate Program Director and an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of South Carolina-College of Social Work. She teaches foundation and advanced practice courses, including Forensic Social Work, Research Methods, and Social Welfare Policy. A forensic social worker with 20 years’ experience, she specializes in capital mitigation and social justice.
CE: 2 social work hours. Proof of attendance for CE will be distributed via email within one week after the event.
